The Principal's Welcome
Greetings and Welcome to Cathedral School; “Where Faith and Friendship Rule!”
I am Mr. Kent McEnaney, the Principal of Cathedral School. The 2022-2023 school year will be my first year as the Principal of this School but not my first at the school. For the past six years, I have taught several different subjects and grade levels, mostly for the middle school aged children. However, my experience with Cathedral goes back much further.
In 1996, my wife Tracy and I, began looking for childcare and visited the Cathedral Early Childhood Center (E.C.C.). From the moment we stepped onto the campus of Cathedral, we felt at home. Since that time, our three oldest children have graduated from Cathedral and Bishop LeBlond High School. Our fourth son, Cole, is currently attending Cathedral and will graduate from the 8th-grade in May, 2023. Having children at the Cathedral E.C.C. and school continually for 27 years has given me a unique perspective and the desire to see the school continue its mission to provide a quality, faith-filled education to the children of St. Joseph.
I wasn’t always in education. Many may recognize the name and associate it with the McEnaney Construction Company that my father, Art McEnaney, started in the 1960’s. My brother, Curt McEnaney, took over the business and had to shut it down after experiencing serious health issues. My experience and talents in construction were often shared with Cathedral over the years, earning me the honor of being named Cathedral’s Volunteer of the Year in 2011.
While my children were attending Cathedral, I coached youth football, baseball, and basketball. Over the years, I have served on several boards and committees with the E.C.C., school, and parish. Mary Burgess, the beloved school principal of Cathedral for 27 years, invited me to teach a creative writing class as an elective. I enjoyed it so much that I went back to college to earn a teaching degree so that I could join the Cathedral teaching staff. I have recently earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University, (May, 2022). I look forward to fusing my love and enthusiasm for Cathedral with my business and teaching experience, so that we can continue the mission of the church and the school for many generations to come.
For the past 121 years, Cathedral School has been a beacon for our community. Our beliefs and traditions have stood the test of time. If you are looking for a school or parish, I invite you to come for a visit and meet our teachers and staff. We welcome you with open arms.
Mr. Kent McEnaney, Principal of Cathedral School
